Order! When you’re hungry and sitting at the laminate counter of a roadside eatery, there are only two words you want to hear.
artist Adriana Matzeg Takes this much-anticipated call as the basis for a new trio of punch-needle works. Through vintage embroidered peepholes, she serves melted grilled cheese, waffles with dabs of butter, and banana splits with puffs of cream and not just one, but three cherries on top.
Like most of his earlier works, place an order Reflects Matzeug’s deep interest in nostalgia and the welcome discoveries of long car rides. She adds, “Inspired by North American roadside diners and late-night stops, each piece captures the essence of a greasy spoon.”
Whether a cheap paper napkin or a bottomless cup of coffee, all objects appear to emerge from delicately speckled backgrounds, painstakingly stitched shadows hugging their shapes.
