One of the absolute best Black Friday deals is to spend $150 at Saks Fifth Avenue and receive a $75 promotional gift card in exchange for your well-timed purchase (or even more, depending on how much you spend).

All you have to do is shop using the promo code: “BFRIGCSF.” This deal is great all on its own, but if you want to get creative, you can make it even better.

This deal is available for purchases online through Saturday, Nov. 29, and in stores through Sunday, Nov. 30. The promo gift card will be eligible for use from Dec. 14 to Dec. 24.

Here’s what you need to know about the Saks Black Friday deal, as well as how to stack deals and discounts to make it even better.

SAKS FIFTH AVENUE

Saks bonus gift card from Black Friday order

If you spend $150, you’ll get a $75 promotional gift card — but you could get even more if you spend more. Here’s how it breaks down:

  • $75 promotional gift card with your $150 purchase
  • $125 promotional gift card with your $500 purchase
  • $250 promotional gift card with your $1,000 purchase
  • $750 promotional gift card with your $3,000 purchase

The promotion terms are as follows:

  • Online shoppers should use the code “BFRIGCSF” at checkout.
  • The offer is valid for online purchases at Saks through Saturday and for in-store purchases through Sunday.
  • Certain brands and items are excluded from the promotion.
  • Promotional gift cards are valid from Dec. 14 to Dec. 24 and can be redeemed both in Saks Fifth Avenue stores and online.
  • The deal is limited to one gift card per household.

The promotional gift card was emailed to me within about 36 hours in past years; the subject line read “Your Saks Fifth Avenue Gift Card.” Interestingly, it seemed to act like a regular gift card last year, not a promo one, and it was available for immediate use. Of course, that may not happen this year, so don’t count on that part.

Earn an extra 12% cash back

RAKUTEN

Right now, you can start your Saks Fifth Avenue purchase at Rakuten and get 12% cash back (or 12 American Express Membership Rewards points or Bilt Rewards Points per dollar spent) on eligible Saks purchases.

This amount may vary during the Black Friday shopping frenzy, so it’s best to compare cash-back rates via Cashback Monitor to get the best deal.

If you are a new Rakuten customer, you can stack a $50 cash-back bonus on your purchase of $50 or more when joining with a referral link.

Use your $50 Amex Platinum statement credit

If you have the American Express Platinum Card®, you can receive a statement credit of up to $50, valid at Saks Fifth Avenue, every six months (up to $100 annually). Your second credit of the year expires Dec. 31, whether you use it or not, so this is an opportunity to stack these savings.

Essentially, you need to activate that benefit in your Amex account and then pay for your order with your Platinum Card. If you still have a $50 statement credit to use, it should be automatically posted to your Amex account. Enrollment is required. (If you have other questions, check out our guide on how the Saks statement credit works.)

What to buy at Saks

Yes, Saks has $5,000 dresses and other humorously priced items. However, there are other items that are nice but not outrageous. If you need ideas about what to buy, here are a few items and brands I’ve enjoyed at Saks over the years:

A few other more affordable-ish brands Saks carries that we like are Skims, Beyond Yoga and Adidas. Of course, scouring the sale section and sorting from least to most expensive is another effective strategy if you’re really unsure what to get.

Putting it all together

Let’s say you get the Dagne Dover backpack. It’s $150.50 right now — just about the perfect price for the gift card deal.

Add the promo code to receive the $75 promotional Saks gift card, and you should see it in your cart if the code is applied correctly. Start your Saks purchase at Rakuten for 12% cash back. You’ll pay Saks $150.50 plus tax and shipping and get about $18 cash back in your Rakuten account.

If you use an Amex Platinum with a $50 Saks credit to pay, you’ll drop your effective price by $50, all the way down to about $82.50 after the $18 cash back from Rakuten (before tax and shipping). Factor in the $75 promo certificate you’ll receive, and you’ve basically spent $82.50 in cash for over $225 in goodies from Saks.

Hopefully, you are buying something that’s already discounted to make it an even better overall deal. Please note that some sale items may not be eligible for the gift card. It should show in your checkout screen.

If this is the way you get something like the Dagne Dover backpack that I’ve owned and loved for years, then you’ve done really well indeed.
